Something hurts, or something no longer moves the way it used to, and it has not settled on its own. A physiotherapist works out why that is happening, treats it, and gives you the exercises and the plan that stop it coming back. Our physiotherapists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, and they see musculoskeletal problems every day of the week. Backs and necks, shoulders, hips and knees, feet and ankles, and the long standing aches that have been ignored for months. We also run rehabilitation after joint replacement and orthopaedic surgery, vestibular rehabilitation for dizziness and balance problems, and home visits for people who cannot easily travel. ## Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist No. You can book directly with us, which is what most of our patients do. If you have private health insurance your insurer may want a GP referral before they will authorise treatment, so it is worth checking your policy first. We also see patients referred by GPs and by orthopaedic consultants, and we are happy to write back to them. ## What happens at the first appointment The first appointment is a proper assessment. We ask about the problem and about your life, because the two are connected, and then we examine how you move. By the end of it you should understand what is going on, what we can do about it, and roughly what the course of treatment looks like. Treatment usually starts in that same session. ## How many sessions will I need That depends entirely on the problem, and any physiotherapist who gives you a number before assessing you is guessing. Some straightforward problems settle in two or three sessions. A serious injury or a post-operative rehabilitation programme runs for longer. No. You can book directly with Healthflex and most of our patients do exactly that. If you intend to claim on private health insurance, check your policy first, because some insurers ask for a GP referral before they will authorise treatment. We also accept referrals from GPs and orthopaedic consultants. Are your physiotherapists chartered? Yes. Our physiotherapists are chartered members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, which is the statutory regulator for physiotherapy in the United Kingdom. How much does physiotherapy cost at Healthflex? An initial physiotherapy consultation of 45 minutes is £72 and a standard treatment session of 30 minutes is £62. Package prices are available for longer rehabilitation programmes, and the full list of current fees is published on our fees page. Can I have a physiotherapy appointment at home? Yes. We offer home visit physiotherapy across the Haslemere area for patients who cannot easily travel to a clinic, which includes many of the people we treat after a stroke or during the later stages of a neurological condition.
