Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that uses focused relaxation to make it easier to change a habit or a response you have not been able to shift by deciding to. **You are awake and in control throughout**, you can hear everything, and nobody makes you do anything. Most people find it closer to being absorbed in a book than to anything they have seen on television.

## Who provides it

Richard Morley has worked locally for many years as a hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner. He is one of a small number of Certificated NLP and Health Practitioners in the United Kingdom, a Master Practitioner and Trainer of NLP, a Practitioner of Clinical Hypnotherapy, a **full member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis**, and a tutor and supervisor with the London College of Clinical Hypnotherapy.

## What the first session involves

Mostly working out what you actually want to be different, because that is what everything afterwards is aimed at. **Vague goals produce vague results.** From there the work is aimed at helping you recognise resources you already have rather than imposing a solution from outside.

## How many sessions

It depends what you are trying to change. Stopping smoking is often a single longer session. Anxiety and stress work usually takes a short course, because the aim is to leave you with something you can use on your own. You will get **an honest estimate at the first session rather than a package you did not need**.

## Is it suitable for everybody

Not quite. If you are under the care of a mental health team we may ask you to check with them first, and there are situations where hypnotherapy is not the right treatment and **we will say so and point you elsewhere**. Speaking to your GP first is never a bad idea.
