Our brace fitting service provides knee braces made by Ossur, assessed and fitted by a physiotherapist. The right brace can ease the symptoms of certain knee conditions, and gives a healing ligament stability, protection and compression while you recover. Theika Botterill has been trained by Ossur to provide this service, and runs it alongside Nick Thornhill.

Do I need an appointment before I get a brace?
Yes. These braces need a careful assessment before they are provided, so every fitting starts with a 45 minute consultation by appointment. Your physiotherapist looks at your knee, talks through your activity and goals, and tells you honestly whether a brace will help. If it will, they choose the right one, fit it, check it is comfortable and show you how and when to wear it. Most of our brace fitting is carried out by Theika Botterill.
Why we use Ossur braces
Ossur is one of the best known makers of custom made braces. Their braces are carefully engineered and built from high quality materials that are made to last, which matters when you are relying on one through weeks of recovery. We supply and fit Ossur braces as standard, and other makes are available where a different brace suits your knee better.
Which knee brace helps after an ACL or PCL injury?
Form Fit® Knee Hinged
The Form Fit Knee Hinged brace is for mild to moderate strains, sprains and ligament tears, including injuries to the ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL. It gives the knee stability, protection and compression while the injury recovers.
It is made from strong, breathable materials, so it stays comfortable while remaining highly durable. The back of the knee is left open, which reduces bunching of the material and the irritation that can come with it, and the rigid hinge arms can be shaped to fit your leg closely. It comes in a wrap or a sleeve version, and your physiotherapist will help you decide which suits you.
A brace works best alongside the right exercises
A brace that is the wrong type or poorly fitted may not protect the joint, and can be uncomfortable enough that you stop wearing it. Even a well fitted brace does its best work as part of a wider recovery plan, so we will make sure yours sits alongside the exercises and treatment your knee needs. Our article Do I need a knee brace? explains which type of brace does what, and when bracing is not the answer.
Price
The appointment is charged as a standard initial assessment, which is £72. Brace prices vary considerably depending on the brace you need, so we discuss the cost with you at the consultation before anything is ordered.
