Why your golf set-up limits your swing, and what physiotherapy can change

Do I need a scan for my back pain?
Most back pain does not need an MRI, and having one too early can make things worse rather than better. Here is when a scan genuinely helps and when it does not.

What Pilates does in rehabilitation, and what it does not
Pilates is good at control, awareness and getting people moving confidently again. It is not magic for backs, and it is not a substitute for loading a joint properly after surgery.

Martin treats musculoskeletal problems and sports injuries, which in practice means the backs, necks, shoulders and knees that make up most of a physiotherapy week, and the injuries that come from tennis, golf and skiing in particular. He runs Healthflex, and he still sees patients, which is deliberate.
Background
Martin qualified from the Cardiff School of Physiotherapy in 1988 and spent the next five years working in the NHS and in Canada before moving into private practice. He is a chartered member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
He has been part of the physiotherapy team attending players at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships since 1990, and has previously worked with South East and British Athletics. That work informs how he treats everybody else, because the principle behind returning a professional player to court is the same principle behind getting a club golfer back to a full swing.
Where you can see Martin
Martin sees patients at the clinic at The Edge on Woolmer Hill in Haslemere.

I could not recommend Healthflex enough. I had an ACL reconstruction in August 2020 and I was referred to Martin Dyer by my surgeon. I can see why! Martin could not have done more to get me back up and moving right the way through lockdown. It is 7 months and he has already got my doing a bit of jogging. Cycling is a piece of cake. I am so grateful to all he has done for me as I was concerned I would never get back on the road. He has shown me anything is possible. Big thanks. I could not have done it without him.

I could not recommend Healthflex enough. Martin was such a pleasure to deal with, very knowledgeable and friendly, he helped me getting rid of pain and numbness in my hand by methodically identifying the source of the problem and eventually referring me the right surgeon. He made me feel comfortable right from the start, shown great care and attentiveness to my case and has been following up with me throughout even after I stopped seeing him for weeks. Thank you!

Huge thank you to Martin for treatment, advice and directions. Martin is outstanding physio. This is the only second time in the last ten years I was in need of his service. First time when Haslemere chiropractor treatment resulted in serious physical injury. Martin treatments were invaluable on my long road to recovery. This time again the help received by me was just outstanding. I learned the hard way that physiotherapy is the safest therapy for all. It’s gentle and effective. I am so glad I have made the call….

I’d had a nagging back issue that just wouldn’t shift, but Martin at Healthflex Physio was brilliant. He took the time to figure out what was really going on and got me back to feeling like myself again. Super knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and genuinely cares. Would definitely recommend!

Another great session with Martin this morning. I always feel much better after our regular appointments. Being a golfer I always have some sort of tightness or injury which Martin identifies quickly and then finds a solution to. Would highly recommend.
